
George Merritt
Southeast Business Director
George Merritt has over 28 years of transportation engineering experience including nearly 25 years of service with the Federal Highway Administration. During his tenure, he was responsible for deploying design-related technology innovations to help improve safety on our Nation’s highways through the application of performance based practical design, innovative design, nighttime visibility, complex freeway interchange design, and predictive safety using the AASHTO Highway Safety Manual.
As a certified instructor for the National Highway Institute, George has delivered training targeting state, local and tribal in all 50 states and earned recognition as an Instructor of Excellence several times. His expertise extends across disciplines serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) relating to NEPA, ROW, Construction and Project Management, Pavements and Materials, Structures and Contract Administration. Prior to joining FHWA he served as an assistant bituminous engineer for the Indiana Dept. of Transportation.
